MPs must be handed a 10 per cent pay rise this year to take their salary to £74,000, the expenses watchdog said today. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority brushed aside widespread public anger and the opposition of the main party leaders to say it planned to plough ahead with the controversial move. Just 10 days ago David Cameron announced he was freezing pay for his ministers for five years, but Downing Street today admitted as MPs they will still get the extra £7,000-a-year.
